Youngsters seek to improve elderly care with innovation
Publish Date: 12-Jul-2018
HKSKH Lok Man Alice Kwok Integrated Service Centre launched a project in September 2016 to encourage teenagers to design elderly care products. Bringing the project to a conclusion was an exhibition that showcased the models of selected designs in David Li Kwok Po Community Hall of St James’ Church. For the duration of the project, the centre worked with twelve organizations to train 450 young people and to serve 320 seniors. Before designing their products, the young participants assessed the needs of the seniors by putting on the aging simulation suit to experience first-hand the physical challenges confronting the elderly. The organizer received over 330 applications and created the prototypes of fifteen designs. The exhibits included a smart chair, a pill box installed with an alarm clock, an anti-slip mat allowing wheelchairs to move on stairs, a food grinder, a wallet that instructs its users on transactions, trousers that massage their wearers, and a multi-functional hearing aid.
