Stand up for HIV Zero Discrimination Short Film Contest
Publish Date: 02-Aug-2018
Over a hundred people gathered at The Salisbury—YMCA of Hong Kong on 7 July to attend the award ceremony of the Stand up for HIV Zero Discrimination Short Film Contest. Professor Samuel Leong, deputy director (academic) of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, presented trophies and certificates to the winners as the guest of honour. St John’s Cathedral HIV Education Centre held this contest to raise awareness among young people of AIDS prevention and to create a society free of discrimination against the patients. The contest started in July last year in Macau and September in Hong Kong. Organizers received twenty-nine scripts, and twenty two of them were made into films—twelve from the secondary school division and ten from the open division. All selected works displayed an understanding of issues related to the disease from different perspectives and backgrounds. Through making these films, the contestants spread the positive message of caring for AIDS patients, and helped reduce discrimination as well as resolve misunderstandings people had about the disease.
