Retiring school heads reminisce about teaching careers at annual dinner

Publish Date: 10-Aug-2018

Anglican (Hong Kong) Primary Schools Council and its principal conference held their joint annual dinner on 3 July at ClubOne in Whampoa. It was attended by the council’s staff, school supervisors, and principals of schools within and without the council. The event was a chance for these education personnel to take a break from their heavy burdens and socialize with each other.

Ms Lui Wing-yee, principal of Chu Oi Primary School, and Ms Tsang Yuk-chun, principal of Chi Fu Chi Nam Primary School, are scheduled to retire this year. During the dinner, they shared their memorable experiences with the participants.

Ms Lui mentioned that she was working in Kei Hin Primary School during 2003. The outbreak of the SARS epidemic forced her to suspend classes even before the education bureau did. She said she had witnessed God’s protection and care during these difficult times.

Ms Tsang told the participants that one of her students was killed in a traffic accident back in the days when she was working at St Joseph’s primary school. Although heartbroken, she still had to comfort the student’s family and the teacher who was wrecked by self-blame for indirectly causing the accident. Furthermore, she had to respond to the inquiries from the media. What helped her and her school through this dark period, she said, was the support from the Revd Paul Tong, who had been at St Joseph’s Church at the time, and the staff at Primary School Counseling Service, including Ms Keung Choi-yin.
